The latest research suggests around 1 in 2 people will die from a smoking related disease and it has been estimated that 1 cigarette takes 11 minutes from your life.
Smoking is linked to at least 15 different types of cancer including lung, larynx, kidney, bowel, stomach and ovarian cancers. It is also linked to a number of other diseases such as coronary heart disease, stroke, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Do you know when the first link was actually made between tobacco and cancer? The answer might surprise you. It was actually in 1761 by a London physician known as John Hill.
Smoking is associated with many other problems such as premature ageing, depression, anxiety, psoriasis and impotence. It can worsen or prolong problems such as asthma, respiratory tract infections and the common cold.
If you live with other people then they can also be adversely impacted by the effects of passive smoking, which is breathing in second hand smoke. Around 17,000 children are admitted to hospital each year due to the effects of passive smoking and exposure to environmental tobacco smoke can lead to a 50-60% increase of heart disease and an increased risk of stroke in non-smokers.
What are the benefits of quitting?
The benefits from smoking will start in as little as 1 hour from your last cigarette. The sooner you stop, the faster you reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, lung disease and many other problems associated with smoking. Within 5 years of stopping, the risk can be reduced to the same level of a non-smoker.
Smoking is also a very expensive habit. Check out the table below which shows you how much money you could save.
NB. The above figures are based on average price of £10 for 20 cigarettes
Stopping smoking can also leave you feeling an amazing sense of pride, improved self-worth, smelling better and younger looking skin.
How can hypnotherapy help you quit?
Hypnotherapy is very effective at helping you quit smoking as it works on addressing the habit and underlying psychological reasons about why you smoke. The New Scientist Magazine reported the results of a recent study which suggests that hypnotherapy enjoys a greater success rate than any other method in helping people to stop smoking. Hypnosis is a fast and effective therapy which can help you quit in just one session.
I offer smoking cessation hypnotherapy for tobacco, vaping and cannabis smoking and the process is the same regardless of what you smoke.
I provide a free initial consultation to all clients before conducting any therapy and the treatment plan is 100% tailored towards your individual needs as every client has a different relationship to smoking.
The one stop smoking cessation session lasts about two hours in total – the first hour involves talking, followed by a one hour hypnosis session. During the ‘talking part’, I will ask you lots of different questions about smoking and your beliefs about smoking will be challenged. At the end of the first hour, you will have a very different perspective on smoking and it will give you a head start on your way to leading a smoke free life.
During the hypnosis part of the session, you will feel completely relaxed, calm and confident and your brain will be completely re-wired so that you come out of the session as a non-smoker.
